Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Health & Safety Construction Manager to join our dynamic team in Stevenage, where you will play a critical leadership role focused on safety, technical integrity, compliance, and project execution excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Contractual Leadership
- Provide expert input to the contracting and procurement strategy, embedding robust safety requirements
- Draft, review, and ensure alignment of contract clauses relating to safety, risk management, and emergency response protocols
- Establish and enforce prequalification safety criteria for contractors
- Evaluate contractors’ EHS systems, incident history, and safety performance during selection processes
- Participate in bid evaluations and post-project reviews, using insights to inform future contract decisions
- Collaborate closely with procurement teams to structure incentivised contracts that drive safety milestones

Technical & Safety Oversight
- Support constructability reviews, facilitating stakeholder discussions and documentation of outcomes
- Ensure project design aligns with safe construction methods while meeting regulatory standards
- Identify and proactively address potential construction risks and safety concerns through early problem-solving
- Contribute to Project Execution Plans, focusing on construction execution strategy
- Provide critical input on permitting and regulatory compliance
Preconstruction & Client Coordination
- Assist in preconstruction EHS information development, coordinating with the Client’s Design Coordinator
- Ensure safety schedules are comprehensively established before site work begins
- Define EHS responsibility boundaries and prequalify contractors and key personnel on behalf of the client
Onsite Compliance & Monitoring
- Monitor and enforce contractor compliance with EHS requirements through regular meetings, audits, and site inspections
- Implement site-specific safety rules and contractor safety oversight plans
- Conduct audits, inspections, and incident investigations to maintain high safety standards
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Construction Management, Construction EHS Management, or a related field
- Extensive expertise in construction safety standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices, with a special focus on demolition activities
- Strong understanding of contract management and procurement processes

- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in a safety critical environment
- Exceptional facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Experience in evaluating contractor safety performance and EHS systems
- Competency in developing and implementing safety incentive programs
