Senior Health Safety Environment Advisor
SHE Lead Advisor
Salary: Up to £49,500 per annum dependent upon experience
Location: Glasgow (with working familiarised to Govan or Scotstoun, 4.5 days per week)
Join one of the world’s leading global defence, security and aerospace companies as a SHE Lead Advisor for Naval Ships. This role requires on-site presence (either Govan or Scotstoun) 4.5 days per week, typically finishing at 1pm on Fridays, standardising a 37-hour workweek. Flexible working hours may also be available.
This innovative company creates over 100 inventions annually, serving customers in over 100 countries. As SHE Lead Advisor for Naval Ships, you will:
- Lead deliveries of Safety, Health, and Environmental arrangements across complex shipbuilding and support programmes.
- Collaborate closely with project teams, contractors, and operational staff to:
- Implement SHE plans.
- Conduct assurance activities.
- Actively manage risk in dynamic environments.
- Provide visible, inclusive leadership across all stages (build, integration, test, and trials) to ensure:
- Adherence to safe systems of work.
- Swift resolution of SHE issues.
- Safeguarding of people, assets, and programme milestones.
You’ll contribute to some of the UK’s most critical Naval Ship programmes, blending technical expertise with a pragmatic approach to SHE, promoting compliance, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Main Responsibilities
- Support the development, maintenance, and deployment of SHE management systems, policies, controls, and assurance frameworks.
- Ensure clear and authoritative SHE guidance to operational leaders, embedding:
- Effective risk management approaches.
- Inclusive decision-making across diverse teams.
- Take direct ownership to strengthen SHE performance, including:
- Implementing sustainable policies.
- Establishing risk controls.
- Driving continuous improvement interventions.
- Deal with innovative SHE improvement programmes that:
- Enhance risk management capabilities.
- Embed data-driven solutions and organisational change.
- Deliver assurance assurances demonstrating compliance with:
- Legal requirements.
- Operational frameworks.
- SHE Management Systems.

About You
- Hold a QCF/NQF Level 5 or above qualification in SHE, such as:
- NEBOSH Diploma.
- Degree-level qualification in Safety, Health, or Environmental practice.
- Alternatively, an accredited, recognised qualification of equivalent standing.
- Demonstrated ability to influence key stakeholders and operationalise:
- Processes.
- Projects.
- Organisational change effectively.
- Skilled in collaborative, inclusive communication with the ability to:
- Embed SHE practices in complex or diverse teams.
- Engage across diverse operational settings.
SC Clearance Compliance
Candidates must meet UK security clearance requirements (Scientific and Technical (SC) clearance). This requires:
- Hold a British passport.
- Lived and worked in the UK continuously for the past 5 years.
