Job Summary
As Senior Healthcare Technical Officer you will act as the first point of contact for hospitals requesting emergency deliveries, ensuring that their orders are entered and issued with the utmost efficiency. As well as performing a number of technical and scientific tasks - such as monitoring the temperature of storage units and undertaking maintenance duties we’ll rely on you to assist in the training and development of other support staff.
Qualifications And Training
We’re looking for a level 4 qualification e.g. BTEC or HNC in a relevant science subject, NHSBT Foundation Degree OR equivalent knowledge and experience of working in a manufacturing, logistics or supply chain environment requiring intermediate level theoretical knowledge acquired through formal training.
You’ll also, ideally, have a working knowledge of basic IT packages and some experience of working unsupervised in a laboratory environment. A good team player, you’ll be capable of motivating both yourself and others as you tackle a wide variety of tasks.
Main Duties Of The Job
- Perform a range of scientific and technical activities related to the blood (and where appropriate tissue) donations from our donors, with the support of the team.
- Responsible for the support and training of new and less experienced staff.
- Undertake precise repetitive manipulation of equipment and blood samples/donations and carry out routine tasks on a regular basis.
- Handle blood bags and a range of equipment.
- Work variable hours and days, weekends and bank holidays as per the roster within the department (unless otherwise rostered within the shift agreement) with appropriate notice.
- Manually handle equipment on a daily basis weighing up to 13 kgs, with or without mechanical aids, with appropriate training.
We are recruiting for 2 vacancies, the working days for both vacancies are as below:
Post 1 - Every Mondays, Tuesdays, plus alternate Sundays and Wednesdays (daytime shifts)

Post 2 - Every Thursdays and Fridays, plus alternate Sundays and Wednesdays (daytime shifts)
You will be required to work on bank holidays if the working days mentioned above fall in bank holidays.
