Senior HR Advisor
Are you an experienced HR professional who enjoys supporting managers through complex people matters, coaching others and helping to shape a consistent, people-centred HR service?
We are looking for a Senior HR Advisor to join our People Operations team providing HR advisory and employee relations support across Steam, Group, UK Sales and UK Supply. This role will help embed a consistent, scalable People Operations model, strengthening ER governance, manager capability and the colleague experience.
This is a hands-on role for someone who can combine strong ER judgement with practical delivery - from consultation, sickness and performance cases through to manager briefings, policy/toolkit development and annual reward cycle support.
You will be joining at an important time as we continue to stabilise and strengthen our People Operations approach. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to make a visible impact, build manager capability and help shape simple, effective and colleague-focused ways of working.
What you will be doing
- Lead complex ER cases including grievance, disciplinary, performance, absence and consultation matters.
- Act as an escalation point for HR Advisors, providing coaching, direction and quality assurance.
- Coach managers and senior stakeholders to handle people matters confidently, fairly and consistently.
- Maintain accurate, compliant and audit-ready case records, escalating risks where needed.
- Work with HRBPs, Occupational Health and internal teams to support effective case management and a positive colleague experience.
- Contribute to policy, process and guidance improvements, translating employment law changes into practical advice.
What we are looking for
- Strong HR Advisory, generalist HR or ER experience.
- Practical UK employment law knowledge and sound judgement in applying policy.
- Confidence coaching managers through complex or sensitive people matters.
- Ability to work at pace while maintaining quality, confidentiality and data protection standards.
- Strong communication, analytical and relationship-building skills.
- A resilient, credible and calm approach when dealing with ambiguity and challenge.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
