Senior HSSE Manager

Senior Manager, Regional Health Safety & Environment

This Senior Manager, Regional Health Safety & Environment position offers a unique opportunity to lead health, safety, and environmental excellence across multiple business segments, fostering a culture of compliance, innovation, and continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

Your work will be centered around Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Management (85%) and Environmental Compliance (15%), with these core responsibilities:

Health, Safety & Environmental Management

  • Strategy & Implementation

    • Develop and support Corporate & Regional HSE strategies, ensuring alignment and implementation across operations.
    • Provide leadership and guidance to business units to achieve HSE compliance and objectives in IMS Instrument Processing, Device Repair, and other segments (e.g., Commercial Sales, Surgical Solutions).
    • Oversee the management of regional HSE teams, ensuring alignment with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Standards).
  • Training & Development

    • Lead the design, delivery, and review of HSE training materials, including eLearning (STERIS U) and hands-on training programs to meet business needs.
    • Implement the STERIS Bloodborne Pathogen Immunisation Program, ensuring alignment with Occupational Health providers and compliance with policies.
    • Drive behavioral-based safety programs and implement a national exposure monitoring program (including PAA, noise, chemical, and inhalable exposure controls).

  • Risk & Compliance Management

    • Identify gaps and improvement opportunities in HSE systems, introducing solutions for risk reduction and compliance.
    • Manage risk and COSHH assessments, advising on control measures and reporting non-compliance instances.
    • Oversee incident investigations (injuries, near-misses, and reports), ensuring adherence to STERIS policies.
  • Performance Monitoring & Reporting

    • Collect, analyze, and report HSE metrics using dashboards and analytics, addressing areas of concern.
    • Collaborate with HSE Council members to improve data-driven insights and enhance internal oversight.
  • Engagement & Leadership

    • Lead central and site-level safety committees, ensuring they support STERIS’s World-Class Safety Excellence mission.
    • Drive communication strategies via monthly safety calls, newsletters, and internal platforms to improve employee awareness.
    • Implement Lean methodology to enhance process efficiency in Safety & Environmental initiatives, fostering partnerships across departments.
  • Audits & Corrective Action

    • Conduct HSE self-assessments and audit programs, reporting findings and recommending corrective actions for gaps.
    • Align all team members with Continuous Improvement (CI) training and Lean Leadership principles to eliminate silos.
  • Emergency & Project Management

    • Develop and manage emergency contingency/ disaster recovery plans to support business resilience.
    • Support major projects and acquisitions, ensuring standardized HSE processes are adopted and implemented.
  • Regional & Technical Support

    • Provide tips/regulations guidance and implementation support for non-conformances at Medisafe, Northampton Repairs, DanMed, IPT, and Surgical Solutions sites.
    • Conduct regulatory monitoring and support CSR & ESG initiatives aligning with corporate objectives.

Environmental Compliance Management

  • Coordinate environmental compliance reviews across business units.
  • Develop engaging, innovative training to support net-zero goals and environmental sustainability initiatives.
  • Draft and implement regulatory communications related to environmental law updates.
  • Support Corporate Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and coordinate compliance tasks.

Required Skills & Experience

To excel in this role, you’ll need:

  • Leadership & Mentorship – Strong project/problem-solving skills, facilitation, training, and team development expertise.
  • Cross-Functional Influence – Ability to collaborate across operational, regional, and senior management levels.
  • ISO Expertise – Working knowledge of ISO 45001 (OHS) & ISO 14001 standards.
  • Technical & Soft Skills
    • Proven ability to develop HSE/Environmental training programs.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Confidence using IT systems (Microsoft Office, SharePoint, eLearning platforms, databases).
  • Regulatory Awareness – Understanding of regional, country-specific HSE legislation and emerging risks.
