Atkins Realis are proud to be working at the heart of the energy industry. Within our Power Grids market, we are expanding our capabilities in HV cable engineering to meet growing demand across transmission, distribution, and HVDC interconnectors.
We are now recruiting a Senior HV Cable System Design Engineer to support the development of our HV Cables capability, including mentoring a specialist team, and actively contributing to business development through client engagement and proposal preparation.

You will be working within our Electrical Engineering team in one of our offices in Epsom, Birmingham, Leeds or Glasgow but the role is flexible and UK wide. Building strong and trusted relationships is a key part of this role. You'll enjoy working with others, sometimes directly at client sites, sometimes from our offices. You'll be client focused – being able interface with clients, understand their needs and convert opportunities into successful workstreams.
Your role
Actively contribute to business development activities, including identifying opportunities, engaging with clients, and supporting strategic growth initiatives. Lead and support the preparation of bids and proposals, including technical input, resource planning, and cost estimation to help secure new work for the HV Cables team. Collaborate with commercial and project management teams to develop competitive and compelling offers aligned with client needs and business objectives. Leading the onshore and offshore HV Cables FEED and detailed design works for major transmission scale projects. Attending site visits, coordinating with other disciplines (Primary, Secondary, Civil & Structural, PM), sub-contractors and suppliers as required. Supporting internal capability development and mentoring junior engineers.

About You
Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Experience in HV cable system design, manufacture, testing, and installation. Familiarity with client specifications (e.g., National Grid, SPEN, SSEN). Strong communication and leadership skills. Business development mindset and client-facing experience. Willingness to travel as required. Commissioning Experience on transmission / EHV scale projects.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview.
