Senior Hybrid Cloud Engineer, GUARDIAN NEWS AND MEDIA

Senior Hybrid Cloud Engineer – The Guardian

Join our pioneering team at The Guardian and contribute to one of the world’s most respected, fearless journalism organisations. Here, a thriving network of award-winning journalists, digital and commercial innovators, and tech thought-leaders collaborates to shape the future of news. With diverse backgrounds and shared values, colleagues constantly push the boundaries of technology, truth, and inclusivity.

We are seeking a Senior Hybrid Cloud Engineer to join our newly formed Hybrid Cloud Team. You’ll collaborate with skilled engineers to implement and refine the on-premise and cloud infrastructure that powers Guardian News & Media—aligning closely with our cloud-first strategy, particularly as we migrate critical on-premise services to AWS while maintaining and improving our current Windows, Active Directory, Entra ID, and VMware estate.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hybrid Infrastructure Support & Development

    • Maintain and enhance our hybrid cloud/AWS infrastructure, focusing on migration from on-premise services to the cloud.
    • Implement, manage, and optimise AWS infrastructure components, including VMs, storage, networking, and cloud-native tooling.
  • Security & Operational Excellence

    • Apply and enforce best practices for system security, resilience, and monitoring while adhering to CIS Benchmarks, NIST, or comparable standards.
    • Support cloud security hardening initiatives, reducing exposure and ensuring compliance.
  • Automation & Infrastructure as Code

    • Advocate and implement automation strategies to improve operational efficiency across cloud and on-premise environments.
    • Lead development, management, and maintenance of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and related tooling.
  • Supported Services

    • Manage Windows Server environments, VMware platforms, and Active Directory/Entra ID, ensuring unity across hybrid identity services.
    • Collaborate with on-call rotations for 24/7 issue resolution, in a 1 week in 3 on a rotational basis (with a paid on-call allowance).
  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Education

    • Liaise with IT leadership and technical teams, presenting designs and advising on issues, improvements, and future cloud-first directions.
    • Translate technical concepts—such as complex architectures or design kwargs—into accessible recommendations for stakeholders at all levels.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
