Senior Hydraulic Modeller
Senior Hydraulic Modeller
The Opportunity
We are looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Hydraulic Modeller to join our River and Coastal Management team permanently. While this role is ideally based in Birmingham, our modelling teams operate across multiple locations including Reading, Bristol, Cambridge, London, Taunton, and Manchester. We offer a hybrid working model—balancing home and office—alongside occasional travel to deliver projects across the UK.
As part of a national team, we specialise in flood risk management, drainage design, river restoration, nutrient neutrality, and natural flood management. Our work spans public and private sector clients nationwide, and our client-focused approach has earned us a reputation as one of the leading development consultancies.
In this role, you will:
- Lead and collaborate on multidisciplinary projects alongside disciplines like Environmental Planning, Ecology, Transport, and Civils.
- Work on exciting initiatives such as river engineering, habitat restoration, large-scale developments, and major infrastructure schemes.
The ideal candidate will:
- Demonstrate proficiency in hydraulic modelling and hydrology, particularly in flood risk studies.
- Develop methodologies that align with client requirements, best practice, and industry guidance.
- Deliver flood modelling on schedule and budget, ensuring independent technical reviews.
- Work both independently and within a team to progress flood studies through the planning system—from inception to completion.
- Effectively communicate technical findings via written reports and presentations to clients, regulators, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Supervise and mentor junior team members, providing guidance and reviewing their work as needed.
- Note: Assistant fee proposal creation is required; project management experience is desirable but not essential.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
