Senior Hydrogeologist – Contaminated Land Practice

UK (Manchester, Bristol, or Delph)

Geosyntec is seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist to join our contaminated land practice in the UK. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced profesional to lead and contribute to innovative groundwater assessment and remediation projects, fostering growth in our team.

About the Role

The Senior Hydrogeologist will drive our site investigation and remediation practice, collaborating with experienced professionals, mentoring junior staff, and expanding our technical capabilities. You’ll work on complex contaminated land projects, balancing technical leadership with business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Technical Leadership

  • Grow client relationships and business development, implementing market strategies.
  • Lead project management, including budgeting, scheduling, and quality control.
  • Design, implement, and analyse hydrological field tests (e.g., pumping tests, packer tests, slug testing).
  • Develop and calibrate groundwater models (migration, solute transport, or thermal effects).
  • Conduct risk assessments using numerical/analytical methods to define remediation criteria.

Field & Remediation Work

  • Oversee site inspections, sampling, drilling, contractor management, and remediation systems.
  • Supervise treatability pilot tests, evaluate data, and write technical reports.

Mentorship & Communication

  • Mentor early/mid-career professionals in project workflows.
  • Present to clients, regulators, and stakeholders.

What You’ll Need

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, earth sciences, or a related discipline (required).
  • Advanced degree in hydrogeology or related field (preferred).
  • Professional registration (e.g., CGeol, CSci, EurGeol) (desirable).

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 8 years of contemporaneous, environmental consulting experience (required).
  • Proven track record in site investigation and remediation (required).
  • Ability to direct project delivery, including planning, risk/financial management, and change control (required).
  • Experience with OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER (preferred).
  • Valid UK driver’s licence with a clean record (required).
  • Preparation for fieldwork, overnight travel, drug testing, clinical monitoring, and health & safety training.
