Are you passionate about helping people feel confident using digital systems?
We’re looking for a Senior ICT Support Officer / Senior Trainer to join the BCUHB Digital ICT Academy as part of the ICT User Experience Team. This multifaceted role focuses on supporting staff to maximise the potential of our clinical systems through high-quality training, hands-on support, and continuous improvement.
You’ll play a key role in delivering and developing training across the clinical systems portfolio, working closely with clinical teams and collaborating with CCIO and CNIO functions. Your work won’t stop at system support—you’ll empower staff to develop the confidence and skills needed to use digital tools safely and effectively.

Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Lead the delivery of clinical systems training, including:
- Classroom sessions
- Virtual learning
- On-the-job support
- Provide staff support during system rollouts:
- Conduct floor walking
- Offer at-the-elbow coaching
- Collaborate with clinical and operational teams to design and refine:
- Training materials
- Lesson plans
- Digital learning content via the Digital ICT Academy
- Support system optimisation by:
- Identifying training gaps
- Feeding findings back into system improvements
Requirements
Key Attributes
We’re searching for someone who enjoys working with people to help them learn—formal teaching experience isn’t mandatory, but you should be able to:
- Explain concepts clearly and adaptably for diverse audiences (e.g., new starters to experienced clinicians).
- Build and nurture strong working relationships and promote a supportive learning environment.
- Break down complex systems into easy-to-follow steps.
- Organise training initiatives with a structured, methodical approach.
- Balance training delivery, support, and project work across priorities.

Experience: Formal training, coaching, education, or hands-on system support is highly valued.
Technical & Practical Requirements
Skills & Soft Skills
- Strong communication & interpersonal skills
- Reliable time management & workload organisation
- Confidence in Microsoft Office and digital tools
- Flexibility to cover training across multiple sites (including occasional evenings/weekends)
Essential Qualifications
- Degree-level education or equivalent professional experience
- Evidence of Continual Professional Development
- Working knowledge of multiple systems and hardware platforms (through experience/training)
- Knowledge of NHS Wales and Local Health Board ICT standards
- Training qualification: Level 3 Award in Education and Training (formerly PTTLS)
Desirable Qualifications
- Professional qualifications in computing/electronic engineering:
- Microsoft certifications (MCSE, MCSP, ITIL Foundation)
- Application management expertise
- Professional memberships (Society for Direct & Digital, BCS, FedIP)
- In-depth knowledge of NHS ICT developments, security policies, and organisational objectives

- ICT support experience (negotiated SLA framework in hospital/organisational setting)
- Problem-solving skills
- Background in NHS/social care or voluntary sector
- Participation in change management projects
- Staff supervision experience
Desirable Experience
- Supervision or team management
- Liaising with clinical leadership to outline IT needs
- Change project coordination
