The Opportunity
The Senior Information Architect will shape Northern Trust’s enterprise data strategy, modeling standards, and AI-empowered systems within our Information Architecture team.
Data Modelling & Architecture
- Lead conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling aligned with data mesh and medallion architectures
- Govern and maintain the enterprise data model library in SqlDBM, enforcing naming conventions, standards, and versioning
- Define canonical data entities and lineage across source, integration, and consumption layers
- Translate business requirements into rigorous data structures in collaboration with engineering and domain teams
- Guide teams in semantic/data model design, including applications for agentic AI solutions
Semantic & Knowledge Modelling
- Integrate semantic layers with business glossaries, data catalogs, and lineage tooling
- Design and maintain semantic models to support LLM-powered and agentic AI capabilities
- Aid in developing ontologies, taxonomies, and controlled vocabularies for metadata and search
- Establish semantic modeling standards to ensure consistent meaning, interoperability, and AI-readiness
- Align data domains with the bank’s core capabilities

Data Engineering & Platforms
- Design data product schemas across Snowflake and Databricks (Delta Lake, access patterns)
- Set architectural guardrails for schema design (performance, scalability, security, cost efficiency)
- Enforce data contract standards and quality frameworks across pipelines
- Review pipelines for compliance with evolving transformation demands
Agentic AI & AI-Assisted Development
- Leverage Snowflake Cortex/Databricks Genie to build natural language-query data products for engineering teams
- Utilise GitHub Copilot (or similar) to streamline modeling, documentation, and pipeline development
- Define agentic AI skill sets for implementation use cases
- Adhere to the AI Champion Network, evaluating emerging tools and guiding adoption
Enterprise Architecture & Design Assurance
- Act as design authority for data architecture across teams and domains
- Collaborate with enterprise, security, and risk architecture to align solutions with industry standards
- Provide early-stage architecture input to mitigate risks in project discovery
Governance & Stakeholder Engagement
- Present architecture decisions to stakeholders, boards, and regulators
- Support regulatory compliance through lineage, metadata, and data quality evidence
- Mentor junior architects and engineers in the Information Architecture community

Essential
- Proven experience in data architecture, engineering, or information management
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or related field
- Enterprise-level data modelling skills (conceptual, logical, physical)
- Hands-on experience with SqlDBM (or equivalent modern toolset)
- dbt Labs expertise
- Proficiency in Python, API integration and automation
- Practical Snowflake/Databricks experience, including Cortex AI and Genie
- Knowledge of OWL, RDF, SPARQL and enterprise ontologies
- Experience with at least one agentic AI framework
- Hands-on experience with GitHub Copilot (or equivalent) in a professional setting
- Financial services background preferred; awareness of BCBS 239 advantageous
Desirable
- Data Vault 2.1 or Kimball/Star-schema modelling
- Experience with data mesh architecture and federated governance
- Familiarity with knowledge graphs (Neo4j, Neptune) or ontology development
- Published contributions to data/AI thought leadership
