Senior Infrastructure Engineer
AWS Multi-Region Resilient Platform Lead
Location: UK / Hybrid
Employment: Full-time
Role Purpose
Lead the design, build and production readiness of a secure, highly resilient, multi-region AWS platform for a banking sanctions screening flow. The role covers infrastructure engineering across Java Spring Boot services, Angular front end, EKS/Kubernetes, Oracle, MQ and Kafka integrations, with a strong focus on high availability, disaster recovery, security, observability and regulated-operational resilience.
Platform Scope
Application
- Java Spring Boot microservices; Angular UI
Platform
- AWS, EKS/Kubernetes, EC2, ALB/NLB, Route 53
Data
- Oracle DB, backup, restore, HA/DR
Integration
- IBM MQ / enterprise MQ, Kafka event streaming
Key Responsibilities
- Multi-region AWS resilience: Design multi-AZ and multi-region deployment patterns, active-active / active-passive failover, RTO/RPO targets, DNS routing, backup/restore, recovery automation and resilience test approach.
- AWS infrastructure engineering: Engineer VPCs, subnets, routing, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect/VPN, security groups, IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, WAF, load balancers, CloudWatch, CloudTrail and AWS Config.
- Kubernetes / EKS leadership: Build and harden production-grade EKS clusters, node groups, autoscaling, ingress, container security, workload scheduling, GitOps deployment and service mesh patterns where required.
- Database and integration resilience: Support Oracle HA/DR designs including RAC/Data Guard concepts, backup validation, capacity planning; design resilient Kafka and MQ patterns including replication, queues/topics, monitoring and recovery.
- IaC, CI/CD and automation: Own environment provisioning and repeatability using Terraform/CloudFormation, Ansible and CI/CD pipelines; ensure configuration is version-controlled, peer-reviewed and auditable.
- Security and compliance: Embed security-by-design, encryption, privileged access controls, vulnerability remediation, audit evidence and controls aligned to banking operational resilience expectations.
- Operational readiness: Lead service readiness, monitoring/alerting, runbooks, incident response model, DR rehearsal, performance checks, cutover support and hypercare transition.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
