Overview

Senior Infrastructure Systems Engineer

Hybrid Software Helix is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Systems Engineer to join a small internal IT department that provides IT support to its operating companies worldwide. The successful candidate will help implement the organisation’s cloud adoption strategy and contribute to the development of processes in anticipation of ISO27001 certification. The role, therefore, requires a highly technical, technology-passionate professional with experience in maintaining and deploying infrastructure systems, server maintenance, and project work, as well as a strong working knowledge of Microsoft® Azure.

The core infrastructure within the business is a multi-site mixture of Windows (2022/2025 Servers/Active Directory), HP-based networking, and next-generation firewalls. The department works with products such as vSphere, Microsoft Azure, Atlassian tools, Veeam, Microsoft 365, Intune, and many more.

In addition to project-based work, as part of this role, you will be expected to deal with critical system issues as and when they occur, which may occasionally involve out-of-hours work.

This role would be ideally suited for a well-rounded, knowledgeable individual who understands the complexity and challenges of modern infrastructure and has a strong grasp of Azure adoption within an enterprise.

The position reports directly to the Chief Information Officer.

Location

Hybrid Software Helix, Cambourne, Cambridgeshire (Hybrid, 3 Office days per week)

Principal responsibilities

  • Help deliver the company’s data centre migration goals into Microsoft Azure.
  • Take ownership of core infrastructure services, including Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Azure, LAN, firewalls, backup, virtualisation, and storage.
  • Strengthen infrastructure security and promote best practice across the environment as part of the organisation’s ISO27001 readiness programme.
  • Research, plan, and implement infrastructure upgrades and replacement solutions, either independently or as part of a team.
  • Administer VMware vSphere infrastructure and enterprise storage platforms.
  • Respond to alerts from network and system monitoring tools to minimise downtime and service impact.
  • Administer backup and disaster recovery systems, including testing, documentation, and improvement of recovery processes.
  • Create and maintain internal documentation, procedures, processes, and technical standards.
  • Handle escalated issues from the IT helpdesk relating to core infrastructure services.
  • Support infrastructure requirements for development and operational tooling, including CI/CD platforms where required.
  • Contribute to infrastructure planning, lifecycle management, security improvement, and cloud adoption initiatives.
  • Occasional travel to other Hybrid Software sites as required to support infrastructure migrations and upgrades.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
