About Us
National Gas is securing Britain’s energy. We transport gas throughout Great Britain, repair and maintain gas pipelines, and manage the meters that allow millions of homes and businesses to access the energy they need. We are the national gas network, providing secure energy to power Britain, achieve net zero, and maintain our industrial competitiveness.
About The Role
If you’re an experienced NDT specialist who enjoys being hands-on and setting the technical standard, this could be right up your street.
As a Senior Inspector, you’ll provide technical leadership and inspection expertise across gas transmission and infrastructure projects that genuinely matter. You’ll be the go-to person for all things NDT, ensuring inspections are done right, standards are met, and safety and asset integrity always come first.
This is not a welding engineering role, but you’ll need a solid understanding of welding to effectively inspect and advise.
What You'll Be Doing
You’ll be right at the centre of inspection activity. You will:
- Deliver and oversee high-quality NDT inspections across construction, maintenance, and integrity works
- Write, review and approve NDT procedures, techniques, and inspection instructions
- Act as the technical authority for NDT; advise project teams, contractors, and stakeholders
- Review contractor documentation and resolve technical queries, deviations, and non-conformances
- Lead, support, and mentor an inspection team
- Support audits, drive continuous improvement, and share lessons learned

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
