Senior Inspector - Non-Destructive Testing (Ambergate)
£55,500 to £65,500 + up to 6% bonus + company car* (Subject to business mileage; full details provided during the process)
- Additional earnings through overtime
- Location: Ambergate, Derby (site-based, 5 days a week)
- Travel: Regular (national)
- Requires commutable access to Ambergate site

About the Role
This position is perfect for an experienced Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) specialist who thrives in hands-on work and technical leadership.
As a Senior Inspector, you will:
- Lead inspection activities across gas transmission and critical infrastructure projects.
- Ensure technical excellence in NDT, adhering to standards, safety, and asset integrity.
- Advise project teams and stakeholders on NDT standards and compliance.
Note: This role is not focused on welding engineering, though strong welding knowledge is required for effective inspection and guidance.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Oversight of high-quality NDT inspections in construction, maintenance, and integrity projects.
- Write, review, and approve NDT procedures, techniques, and inspection instructions.
- Act as the technical authority for NDT, providing advice to contractors and stakeholders.
- Assess contractor documentation, resolve technical queries, deviations, and non-conformances.
- Lead, support, and mentor an inspection team.
- Manage audits, implement improvements, and share lessons learned.
- Ensure adherence to regulations, safety standards, and compliance in a highly regulated environment.

Key Requirements & Experience
Essential:
✔ A strong background in NDT inspection within regulated or safety-critical industries. ✔ Practical experience in:
- Radiography (RT)
- Ultrasonics (UT/PAUT)
- Surface inspection techniques (Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI)) ✔ Proven ability to write, review, and approve NDT procedures. ✔ Relevant NDT certifications (e.g., PCN, CSWIP, or equivalent). ✔ HNC (or equivalent) in an engineering or technical discipline. ✔ Solid understanding of inspection requirements for welded components. ✔ Experience working to national and international codes, standards, and ISO 9001. ✔ Confident communicator with experience leading or supporting inspection teams. ✔ Full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
✔ Experience in gas transmission, pipelines, or pressure systems. ✔ Knowledge of coatings and painting systems (including related inspections). ✔ Audit, quality, or safety qualifications (e.g., ISO auditor, IOSH, NEBOSH, CDM). ✔ Progress toward Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. ✔ Security clearance (eligibility required for this role).
