Senior Internal Audit Manager

Internal Audit Manager

Location: Darlington (Hybrid) or Home-Based Contract: Permanent Ref: N/A

About the Role

Railpen, responsible for securing £34 billion in assets and administering several pension schemes (including the UK’s largest, the Railways Pension Scheme), is recruiting two Internal Audit Managers—senior roles offering high exposure, accountability, and influence across our business and governance structures.

This is an opportunity for experienced Internal Audit professionals who excel at delivering outcomes, exercising judgement, and providing independent, decision-useful insights in a complex environment. We’re particularly interested in candidates who embrace modern assurance—moving beyond siloed evaluations to deliver thematic insights, connected assurance, and proportionate, risk-focused work that shapes strategic decisions.

The Company: Railpen

  • Safeguards the future of members through secure, sustainable, and affordable pensions
  • Holds £34bn+ in assets
  • Specialises in the administration of pension schemes, including the Railways Pension Scheme (one of the UK’s longest-established largest funded truesave schemes).
  • Holistic mission: to serve members both now and to positively impact the communities they’ll retire into.

Key Responsibilities

As an Internal Audit Manager, reporting to the Chief Internal Auditor and working closely with the Head of Operations, you will:

  • Own delivery of Internal Audit activity across assigned portfolios:
    • Ensure timely, coordinated, and high-quality completion of engagements
    • Prioritise work based on risk, proportionate assurance, and decision-making impact
    • Transform audit findings into clear, credible, and actionable insights

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
