The Audit and Risk Recruitment Company are exclusively recruiting for a Senior Internal Auditor for a forward-thinking, industry-leading public sector organisation. About the Role
A senior-level position reporting directly to the Assistant Director, this role involves leading independent audit reviews, overseeing junior team members, and delivering high-quality, data-driven assessments. You will play a key part in shaping internal audit processes while contributing to organisational improvement through evidence-based recommendations.
Responsibilities and Duties
To perform the role effectively, you will:
- Work autonomously to plan, execute, and document full-cycle internal audits, meeting the Company’s defined standards and within agreed timelines.
- Supervise and mentor internal auditors, ensuring performance and quality standards are maintained through regular guidance, feedback, and support.
- Authorise timesheets, leave requests, and expense claims for your assigned team.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director on resource allocation and operational decisions.
- Plan and initiate the audit process:
- Actively engage with client managers to agree objectives, scope, and methodology.
- Ensure proper risk-based approach during audit scoping and design.
- Design and implement robust testing methodology for each audit, tailored to specific risks and organisational needs.
- Produce high-quality audit reports:
- Draft reports within agreed deadlines.
- Ensure recommendations are realistic, clear, and agreeable with client managers, including confirmation of implementation timelines.
- Foster strong working relationships across all organisational levels to:
- Upskill stakeholders on audit findings and processes.
- Align recommendations with business objectives.
- Facilitate smooth implementation of audit outcomes.

Key Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate:
Qualifications & Certifications
- Preferred: Hold or qualify for a recognised Internal Audit certification:
- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) – or readiness for the chartered certification programme.
- OR achieve professional-level status with CMIIA (Chartered IIA Member).
- OR have 3 or more years of internal audit experience to meet entry requirements and a relevant designation.

- A minimum 2:1 degree in any discipline alongside comprehensive internal audit experience to align with certification eligibility.
Experience & Skills
- Proven expertise in internal audit delivery with hands-on experience in IT audits.
- Strong capability to deliver objective, thorough, and professional audit outputs that drive continuous improvement.
- Willingness to innovate auditing techniques by leveraging data analytics, agile methodologies, and emerging tools.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills – able to engage effectively with all organisational levels from senior leadership to operational teams.
- A collaborative mindset, underpinned by a solution-focused, proactive attitude, with the ability to work flexibly under pressure.
- Commitment to professional development – a growth-oriented mentality with interest in continuing education, best practices, and industry trends.
