Job Description

Location: Birmingham

Salary: Base salary: £54,878pa to c.£64,562pa, depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer flexible benefits fund of 20% which is paid on top base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits - check them out in the Benefits section on our website.

About the Role

As a Senior Internal Communications and Engagement Manager at HS2 you will deliver HS2’s internal communications and engagement strategy, aligned to strategic priorities and our employee value proposition, so that we can help employees understand how they successfully contribute to our company purpose, and ensure everyone feels informed, valued and engaged.

  • Work with the Head of Internal and Supply Chain Communications to develop and deliver an internal communication and engagement strategy, building an inclusive culture aligned to HS2’s strategic priorities and in support of wider business objectives.
  • Support the delivery of internal communications to inform and engage employees on business priorities and key milestones in delivering the railway taking the opportunity to promote our employee value proposition as appropriate.
  • Support change and transformation communication activity across the business to enable targeted, timely and engaging communications, helping to ensure we create the right culture to help HS2 Ltd achieve its objectives.
  • Build relationships across the organisation to gain buy in, support and sign off for internal communication activities, engagement activity and campaigns from the relevant Executive / Senior Leadership sponsor.
  • Work with stakeholders to understand their goals and deliver appropriate strategies and plans which ensure the right message gets to the right audience, at the right time, evaluating deliverables and performance to ensure a constant cycle of learning and improvement.
  • Produce and publish internal communications content across channels as required, ensuring content is accessible from an EDI perspective, consistent and aligned to strategic business priorities and corporate KPIs.
  • Promote HS2’s Employee Value Proposition to drive positive staff engagement across the supply chain.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams in the External Affairs Directorate to deliver integrated campaigns targeted at the 30,000 workforce through face-to-face events and digital platforms.
  • Working with external providers, manage the delivery of our employee engagement and wellbeing surveys, including subsequent action planning and associated communications throughout the process.
  • Develop and implement the internal response as part of wider company crisis communications, as and when required.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.

About You

  • The ability to develop and deliver engaging internal communications campaigns, aligned with strategic business objectives across a range of communications channels to a wide and varied audience.
  • The ability to produce and present information, through a range of mediums, to a variety of stakeholders and to engage and respond to queries and requests in a way that fosters collaboration.
  • The ability to plan, execute and complete projects to agreed deadlines and required quality standards.
  • The ability to influence and negotiate with senior internal stakeholders.
  • The ability to engage and communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Ability to understand and promote complex and sensitive issues in a persuasive way to different audience groups.
  • The ability to manage online channels including intranets and e-newsletters, along with video capture and editing skills.
  • Events management skills, including logistics, planning, technical requirements and delivery.
  • The ability to independently manage and deliver individual and functional goals.
  • Ability to work in a consistently evolving organization.

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of the development, delivery and measurement of best practice internal communications and its role in enhancing business performance.
  • Knowledge of new and emerging internal communications tools, techniques and channels as well as evaluation techniques and practices.
  • Knowledge of best practice employee engagement approaches, including survey processes, change management practices, tools and techniques.
  • Project management tools and application within corporate communications.
  • Knowledge of public affairs, media relations, corporate communications, community engagement, social media and campaigns.

Type Of Experience

  • Experience at senior management level developing and delivering comprehensive, evidence-based internal communications and engagement strategies and plans aligned with wider business objectives.
  • Experience working on large-scale transformation programmes and using change impact analysis to inform appropriate communication approach.
  • Experience of developing and delivering engagement campaigns.
  • Providing counsel on internal corporate communications and engagement to Executives and senior leaders across large, complex, fast-paced matrix organisations.
  • Development, delivery, and measurement of internal communications and resources planning, defining the processes and structures required to achieve success.
  • Experience delivering high quality engagement communications to agreed deadlines.
  • Experience of designing and writing content for a range of internal communications channels.
