About the Role
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank dedicated to financing infrastructure with sustainability at its core, operating across 111 approved member countries with a capitalisation of USD100 billion and an AAA rating. The Project and Corporate Finance Clients Department, Global (PCF) focuses on expanding private-sector infrastructure financing with a strong emphasis on originating and executing nonsovereign-backed financing (NSBF) transactions. The department aims to position AIIB as the go-to bank for private-sector infrastructure investments.
This role plays a strategic leadership function in bank relationship development, ensuring alignment with AIIB’s investment focus on green, technology-enabled, and connectivity-driven projects.
Responsibilities
The Senior Project Finance Adviser will:
- Originate and execute high-value infrastructure investment projects aligned with AIIB’s corporate strategy and environmental/social standards.
- Identify, evaluate, and structure investment opportunities in critical sectors and emerging markets, ensuring a robust project pipeline is maintained.
- Lead cross-functional teams (legal, technical, safeguards) to conduct due diligence for investment proposals, presenting findings to internal investment committees.
- Conduct market research on projects, clients, and environments to inform financing strategies and client engagement.
- Organise, prepare, and deliver client presentations, memos, and reports, including managing communication with high-level stakeholders.
- Facilitate Bank-wide coordination, collaborating with relevant units to ensure consistent and well-informed decision-making.
- Maintain compliance with AIIB’s internal investment guidelines and risk frameworks, overseeing project approval processes.
- Adhere to departmental targets, delivering measurable results in volumes, project quality, and market penetration.
- Perform ad hoc tasks as directed by senior management, ensuring operational agility and responsiveness.

Requirements

Minimum eight years of relevant experience in infrastructure finance, backed by credentials from:
- Commercial/Investment Banks
- International Financial Institutions
- Top-tier consulting firms

Master’s degree or equivalent in:
- Business, Finance, Economics
- Alternative relevant field (e.g., Infrastructure Studies, Engineering Economics)

Specialised expertise in structuring comprehensive financing solutions, including:
- Project finance (debt), mezzanine, guarantees, syndications
- Green/ESG-aligned financing models

Strong analytical, financial, and credit assessment skills, including:
- Financial modelling
- Credit risk evaluation
- Market-driven and technical feasibility assessments

Preferential priority for experience in Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Middle East, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Excellent communication in English: both oral and written presentation skills.

fluency in a regional language (of AIIB’s investment focus) is a plus.
