Senior Investment Specialist / Client Portfolio Manager – Long/Short Equities

Octavius Finance is exclusively partnering with a London-based alternative investment fund that is entering an exciting expansion phase following a significant recent allocation of capital and a material increase in assets under management.

As the firm continues to scale its long/short equities platform, it is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Investment Specialist / Client Portfolio Manager to work closely with senior Portfolio Managers and represent the investment strategy to institutional investors globally.

This is a highly visible role positioned at the intersection of investment, investor relations and business development. The successful candidate will become a key partner to the equities investment team, helping communicate the firm's long/short investment philosophy, portfolio positioning, alpha generation process and market views to sophisticated institutional audiences.

The role will suit an individual with a strong understanding of fundamental equity investing, long/short strategies and hedge fund portfolio construction, who can confidently engage with investors on performance attribution, investment themes, risk positioning and the rationale behind portfolio decisions.

Working closely with Portfolio Managers, the successful candidate will help articulate the firm's differentiated investment approach, support capital raising initiatives and strengthen relationships with institutional allocators as the platform continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a senior representative of the firm's long/short equity platform to existing and prospective institutional investors.
  • Partner closely with Portfolio Managers to communicate investment philosophy, portfolio construction, positioning, risk management and market outlooks.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the firm's fundamental research process, stock selection framework and long/short equity strategy.
  • Translate complex investment ideas, thematic views and portfolio decisions into compelling messaging for institutional audiences.
  • Discuss portfolio performance, attribution, positioning and investment outcomes with investors and consultants.
  • Produce high-quality investor materials including strategy updates, investor presentations, market commentary and thought leadership content.
  • Support fundraising activities, investor due diligence, consultant relationships and capital introduction initiatives.
  • Participate in investor meetings, conferences, roadshows and industry events.
  • Provide informed perspectives on equity markets, sector trends, investment themes and macro developments impacting the portfolio.
  • Work closely with Portfolio Managers, investment teams and distribution functions to ensure consistent communication of the firm's investment strategy.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
