Senior iOS Engineer
Senior iOS Engineer (Swift) – SumUp Pay

The Consumer team creates SumUp Pay, a regulated consumer banking app offering payments, card management, savings, and open banking, used daily by hundreds of thousands of customers. This high-impact squad—comprising engineers, product managers, and designers—works at breakneck pace on a product that deeply benefits users. We’re scaling our iOS engineering capabilities to match the appetite of our roadmap, and this role sits at the forefront of that growth.
As a Senior iOS Engineer, you’ll own pivotal parts of the customer journey from onboarding and KYC validation to savings features and in-app messaging—while shaping how we build, not just what.
What you’ll do
- Design, build, and ship key iOS features, including:
- KYC and card activation flows
- Savings functionality
- Open banking consent experiences
- Payment processing and customer-facing transactions
- Proactively ensure app stability, including:
- Performance monitoring
- Crash reporting
- Resolution of critical issues before they impact users
- Drive the evolution of iOS architecture, focusing on:
- Modularisation
- Dependency management
- Scalability as the app grows
- Partner with the CRM Manager to implement in-app messaging via Iterable, ensuring:
- Correct event instrumentation
- Accurate display logic for modals and banners
- Write clean, well-tested Swift code, contributing to:
- Peer code reviews
- CI/CD pipeline health
- Team-wide quality expectations

You’ll thrive in this role if…
✔ Swift and iOS mastery: Proven track record shipping consumer-facing features in product-heavy environments. ✔ Backend collaboration: Experience with RESTful APIs, owning API contract design and implementation alongside backend engineers. ✔ Architectural foresight: Strong understanding of iOS design patterns, modular approaches, and best practices for maintainability. ✔ Fintech awareness: Comfort with regulated environments—balancing innovation with security, compliance, and data privacy requirements. ✔ User-led mindset: Product-oriented with the ability to anticipate usability challenges across the entire journey, not just technical feasibility.
