Senior IT Network and Infrastructure Engineer
£48,000.00 per year • Pembrokeshire
We are seeking an experienced Senior IT Network and Infrastructure Engineer to lead and optimise our organisation’s network infrastructure. The successful candidate will design, implement, and maintain complex network solutions to ensure high availability, security, and performance in a dynamic environment supporting diverse protocols and systems.
Ideal for a dedicated professional with expertise in enterprise-level networking, this role is based in our state-of-the-art facility in beautiful Pembrokeshire.
Responsibilities

Design, implement, and maintain enterprise-level network architecture, including:
- LAN
- WAN
- WLAN
- VPN

Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of network services

Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues across multiple environments

Configure and manage network hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers

Lead network upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure improvement projects

Implement and support secure remote access solutions using:
- VPN
- IPsec
- SSL/TLS
- SSH protocol standards

Enforce network security best practices and policies

Manage security measures including:
- Firewall rules
- IDS/IPS
- Encryption
- PKI

Monitor network performance, capacity, and security, with troubleshooting to improve network health

Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams

Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning for network services

Conduct regular system updates, patch management, and configuration backups

Develop detailed network configurations, procedures, and disaster recovery documentation

Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior network engineers

Participate in on-call support and incident response as required

- Proven experience designing, implementing, and managing large-scale networking across enterprise environments
- Strong knowledge of routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP, EIGRP) and network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NFS)
- Extensive network security background with hands-on experience in:
- Firewall configuration
- VPN systems
- Encryption standards
- Hands-on experience with virtualisation platforms such as VMware vSphere or similar technologies; containerisation knowledge advantageous
- Proficiency with Windows Server operating systems
- Certifications such as CCNP/CCIE or equivalent highly regarded
- Familiarity with the ITIL framework beneficial
