Senior IT Project Manager

Senior Project/Programme Manager (Public Sector & IT Technology)

About The Job

As a Senior Project/Programme Manager, you will lead the delivery of large, complex IT and technology projects and programmes for our public sector and other clients. This involves managing high-visibility deliveries across the full project lifecycle, from initiation to end-to-end delivery, ensuring successful outcomes in dynamic, multi-supplier, and matrix environments.

You will provide strong leadership to multi-discipline and multi-supplier teams, foster a collaborative and high-performing culture, and engage with senior stakeholders to deliver value while driving continuous improvement.

Hybrid Working: Your work environment will blend company offices, client sites, and remote working from home, though working 100% from home will not be permitted.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Project/Programme Delivery: Manage large and complex IT/technology projects/programmes end-to-end, ensuring adherence to agreed scope, quality, schedule, and budget.
  • Team Management: Provide leadership to multi-discipline and multi-supplier teams, motivating teams to achieve high performance in matrix environments.
  • Agile Delivery & Risk Management: Develop project/programme schedules, establish delivery rhythms, manage risks/dependencies, and resolve blockers proactively.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including senior leadership, aligning perspectives and ensuring successful delivery.
  • Continuous Improvement: Promote operational efficiency via agile practices and lessons learned from past engagements.
  • Financial Responsibility: Oversee project budgets, ensuring accurate forecasting and value delivery, alongside robust change control.
  • Commercial Acumen: Assess commercial proposals and navigate different contract types (e.g., Time & Materials, fixed price).
  • Reporting & Data-Driven Decision Making: Provide clear performance data to stakeholders, supporting informed decision-making.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all deliverables meet stage-appropriate quality standards, delivered on time and within scope.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Senior-Level Project/Programme Delivery: Proven expertise managing large and complex IT/technology projects from initiation to completion.
  • Technical & Industry Expertise: Deep understanding of agile delivery, project lifecycle management, and experience in matrix/multi-supplier environments.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders, communicating effectively and aligning objectives.
  • Team Leadership: Successful track record in leading multi-discipline/multi-supplier teams, driving high performance.
  • Budget & Financial Management: Hands-on experience in managing project budgets, forecasting, and delivering value.
  • Risk & Issue Resolution: Ability to identify and proactively manage risks, implementing mitigation strategies and resolving issues timely.
  • Robust Planning: Expertise in creating and adhering to comprehensive project/programme plans aligned with organisational goals.
