SecureFlag is a fast-growing London-based company with a mission to improve application security training for developers. We have created an innovative platform for developers to learn, practice, and internalize modern secure coding practices through real-world exercises. Our objective is to offer highly immersive, intuitive training so attuned to the developer’s individual needs that the overall experience is genuinely natural and enjoyable and, as a result, directly helpful and immediately applicable to their everyday job.

Position

As a Senior Java Developer, you will help design and develop the SecureFlag platform. The person will be in charge of the design, maintenance, and development of the backend Java platform.

You will have strong experience developing complex Java applications based on microservice architecture. Experiences in AWS cloud services, SQL, and familiarity with DevOps and Frontend concepts are a big plus.

You will possess excellent English communication skills, with a particular ability to distill complex topics clearly, thus ensuring a seamless, positive development process is achieved.

Responsibilities

  • Design and development of the SecureFlag backend platform.
  • Maintenance and enhancement of the existing platform.
  • Development and maintenance of automated tests and CI pipelines.
  • Work closely with the engineering team.
  • Track, reproduce, troubleshoot, and provide logical solutions to issues.
  • Operate in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, small team environment.
  • Become familiar with the application security industry best practices and SecureFlag's mission to inspire learning engagement, resulting in better, more secure code.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in developing complex applications in Java.
  • In-depth knowledge of Hibernate with troubleshooting skills in identifying and solving performance bottlenecks.
  • Competency in understanding and improving large pattern-based and scalable Java applications based on microservices.
  • Competency in identifying independently the code areas that require improvements and implementation of new functionalities.
  • Familiarity with development tools such as Git, Docker, and CI pipelines.
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture based on Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS).
  • Experience in implementing automated testing is a plus.
  • Good English language skills.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no daily supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to communicate with colleagues and management.
  • Good time management skills, including prioritizing, scheduling, and adapting as necessary.
