Senior Java Engineer – Payments
London – Hybrid (1 day per week onsite)
Are you a hands-on Java Engineer who enjoys building high-performance, distributed systems where resilience, scalability and correctness really matter?
This is an opportunity to work at the heart of real-time payments infrastructure, helping to deliver mission-critical platforms used by some of the world's largest financial institutions. We're hiring on behalf of a leading payments consultancy that designs and delivers event-driven payment platforms for Tier 1 banks across the UK and internationally.
You'll join a highly skilled engineering team responsible for building and enhancing low-latency, event-driven payment systems capable of processing millions of transactions every day. Working as a senior individual contributor, you'll collaborate with architects, engineers and client teams to design and deliver robust, scalable software that powers real-time payment processing.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
