I’m partnering with a global technology business that builds mission-critical software used across defence, government and complex operational environments.
They’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team working on a major long-term UK defence programme.
This is a genuinely interesting backend role with plenty of technical ownership. You’ll be building secure, scalable services, designing integrations across complex systems and helping shape the technical direction of a platform where reliability and quality really matter.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience in defence, government, national security, critical infrastructure or other regulated environments would be highly valuable.
You’ll suit this role if you enjoy working on complex systems, want meaningful technical ownership and care about building software that has a genuine real-world impact.
Due to the nature of the programme, applicants must be UK nationals and eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance. Active or lapsed SC would be a major advantage.
