Senior Laboratory Technician (Part-Time) – Donnington Grove Veterinary Group
About the Role

We’re seeking an enthusiastic, team-orientated Senior Laboratory Technician to join our team at Donnington Grove Veterinary Group, based in the Newbury area, on a part-time basis.
Donnington Grove Veterinary Group is part of inspiring vet care and is proud to deliver exceptional medical care to animal patients while upholding strong client relationships through effective communication.
Practice Highlights
- Multidisciplinary veterinary laboratory conducting a wide range of animal diagnostic tests using modern technologies
- Exposure to diverse laboratory disciplines including:
- Clinical chemistry
- Haematology
- Serology
- Microscopy and cytology
- Parasitology
- Microbiology
- PCR testing
- Hands-on experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), including sample registration and result reporting
- Involvement in essential operations:
- Equipment maintenance and calibration
- Quality control
- Stock management
- Waste disposal
Key Responsibilities
You will play a critical role in delivering accurate and reliable diagnostic results, supporting veterinary professionals in providing exceptional patient care.

- Perform routine laboratory testing including:
- PCR
- Serology
- Biochemistry
- Immunoassays
- Result validation
- Manage the receipt, processing, storage and disposal of samples while maintaining:
- Quality control
- Turnaround efficiency
- Maintain:
- Laboratory equipment
- Working areas
- Reagents
- Stock levels
- Identify, resolve, and escalate technical/quality/maintenance issues to senior staff
- Support laboratory operations through:
- Workload prioritisation
- Client communication
- Training
- Additional duties as required
Who You Are
You’ll thrive as a detail-oriented, fast-paced professional who brings:
✔ Strong technical skills in:
- Clinical biochemistry
- Haematology
- Serology
- PCR testing ✔ Excellent organisational abilities, including:
- Independent working
- Workload prioritisation
- Meeting deadlines in a time-sensitive environment ✔ Confidence to communicate technical details clearly with colleagues across all levels ✔ Problem-solving skills, high accuracy, attention to detail, and manual dexterity ✔ Preferred (but not essential):
- Experience in veterinary or medical diagnostic laboratories
- Understanding of animal disease-relevant testing
Working Pattern
- Part-time (35 hours/week)
- Tuesday–Friday: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (Bank Holiday cover required during equine season)
- Saturdays: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
