Senior Laboratory Technician
Location: Ringwood, UK
Job Type: Full-Time (Monday–Friday, covering laboratory operations between 8:30am–5:30pm)

Are you an experienced laboratory professional with a passion for quality, teamwork, and scientific excellence? VPG, part of Zoetis, is looking for a Senior Laboratory Technician to join our Reference Laboratories team in Ringwood.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering a market-leading veterinary pathology service, supporting veterinary professionals with high-quality diagnostic testing while working in a collaborative and innovative laboratory environment.
About the Role
As a Senior Laboratory Technician, you will actively participate in the day-to-day operation of the laboratory, ensuring diagnostic testing is carried out to the highest quality standards and within agreed turnaround times. You'll also support continuous improvement, mentor colleagues, and contribute to maintaining our exceptional laboratory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine scientific and technical investigations within the laboratory.
- Process, record, allocate, and dispose of specimens accurately and efficiently.
- Validate laboratory results to a high standard within your area of competence.
- Operate laboratory instrumentation, perform quality control, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance.
- Prepare reagents and laboratory materials in accordance with SOPs.
- Ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Health & Safety, COSHH, and quality management systems.
- Maintain laboratory housekeeping, equipment, and documentation.
- Support internal and external quality assurance programmes.
- Assist with writing and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Manage laboratory stock and reagent supplies.
- Train, mentor, and support other laboratory team members.
- Contribute to validation projects, process improvements, and continuous professional development (CPD).
- Deliver results within expected turnaround times while maintaining exceptional quality standards.

Specialist Experience
Successful candidates will have experience in one or more of the following disciplines:
- Haematology
- Automated hematology analysers (e.g. Sysmex)
- Blood film preparation and examination
- Manual differentials and specialised haematology testing
- Quality control and analyser maintenance
- Biochemistry & Immunology
- Automated analysers (e.g. AU460 & Immulite)
- Sample preparation
- Microbiology
- Urinalysis and fecal analysis
- Culture preparation and interpretation
- Microscopy and parasitology
- Routine microbiology techniques and laboratory workflows

- Has previous experience working in a veterinary diagnostic or clinical laboratory.

- Is proactive, adaptable, and committed to continuous learning.
