Senior Land Manager – Permanent, Full Time
Base Location: Scottish locations – Perth, Inverness, Aberdeen or Glasgow
Salary & Benefits
- £60,000 - £75,100 base salary

The Role
Join SSEN Transmission in a critical role supporting the delivery of energy infrastructure across Scotland. As a Senior Land Manager, you will:
- Lead land and property rights strategy to enable major capital projects
- Balance strategic land assembly with effective stakeholder engagement
- Drive project delivery through negotiated agreements and statutory processes
Responsibilities
Key Focus Areas
- Secure, maintain, and manage robust land and property rights over a challenging portfolio, using statutory powers (wayleaves and compulsory purchase orders).
- Develop and implement land assembly strategies for large-scale power projects across base capital expenditure, customer connections, and wider network expansions.
- Risk management to uphold future network resilience.
Core Duties
- Negotiate voluntary agreements with landowners and prepare statutory applications (wayleaves, compulsory purchase orders).
- Oversee data management and multi-disciplinary coordination to support evidence-based claims.
- Work with internal & external stakeholders, including:
- Landowners, tenants, developers
- Local authorities
- Scottish Government Energy Consents Unit
- Forestry and Land Scotland
- Heritage institutions
- Regulatory bodies

Requirements
Essential Knowledge & Expertise
- Practical understanding of Scottish landownership structures.
- Proficient in wayleaves, servitudes, and land acquisition.
- Detailed technical knowledge of:
- Electricity Act 1989
- Land Compensation Act 1973
- Compulsory Purchase Act 1965
- Familiarity with energy network governance & stakeholder dynamics.
- Membership (or ambition) of:
- Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors’ Rural Profession Group
- Central Association of Agricultural Valuers
Professional Attributes
- Strong stakeholder negotiation skills for both voluntary and compulsory acquisition processes.
- Technical reproducibility (e.g., legal evidence, market valuation arguments).
- Strategic problem-solving in high-profile, time-sensitive projects.
