Purpose of Role:

As part of a Legal, Ethics, and Compliance function currently undergoing transformation, this newly created role is designed to support the evolving needs of the business, both now and for the future. The Senior Lawyer (Energy) will provide high-quality legal advice with a primary focus on energy law and projects, while demonstrating agility and confidence in advising across other legal disciplines. Whilst being a hands-on advisory role, it includes line management responsibilities and offers a valuable opportunity for a legal professional ready to step into a junior management position. The individual will work closely with the Group Legal Director (Marine and Group Partners) and collaborate across the department and wider enterprise to support the delivery of the business’ legal needs.

Main accountabilities:

Energy Legal Advisory

  • Advise on all aspects of energy law, including project development, regulatory compliance, commercial arrangements, and dispute resolution.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate energy project contracts (e.g., power purchase agreements, grid connection agreements, joint venture and partnership agreements, EPC and O&M contracts).
  • Support the business in managing energy sector risks, including regulatory, environmental, financial, and operational risks.
  • Advise on renewable energy projects, offshore and marine energy developments, and utility-scale infrastructure.
  • Provide legal input on development projects, including residential, commercial, and rural energy schemes, with a focus on delivery and risk management.

Cross-Functional Legal Support

  • Provide legal advice across other areas of law as required, including commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, and governance.
  • Support enterprise-wide initiatives and transformation programmes with legal input and risk assessment.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders across business units, including energy development, marine operations, property, finance, sustainability, and operations.
  • Liaise with external counsel, developers, utility companies, consultants, and advisors as needed, ensuring value for money and alignment with internal priorities.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
