Senior Lead Driver Assessor

Supermarket Assistant (Senior Lead Driver Assessor)

About the Role

As a Senior Lead Driver Assessor at Waitrose, you’ll play a crucial role in both the shop and e-commerce operations. Your responsibilities include leading the internal customer service our brand is known for, overseeing the pick and delivery operations across the branch, and working with the wider team to ensure exceptional service and efficiency.

Key to this role:

  • Extended premium pay: Any time worked between 22:00–06:00 attracts a night premium of £3.75/hour (applies to existing Partners on Enhanced Hours Premium too).
  • Ages 18+ only (due to working time regulations).

Key Responsibilities

E-Commerce Leadership

  • Optimise operations: Ensure picking efficiency and identify areas for continuous improvement.
  • Improve performance: Work with management to implement and refine processes.
  • Drive excellence: Coach and train staff on e-commerce tasks, including high-standard driver assessments to uphold the Waitrose brand.
  • Recruitment support: Assist in interviewing and testing new drivers to evaluate their driving skills.
  • Brand advocacy: Collaborate with teams to set high customer service standards, driving positive change.

Shop Operations Support

  • Stock management: Handle stock replenishment to keep shelves fully stocked and products where customers expect them.
  • Order fulfilment: Process online orders for driver-completed Doorstep Delivery.
  • Waste reduction: Maintain product quality by applying due diligence and date-based markdowns.
  • General duties: Contribute to shopkeeping tasks, including checkout support, Click & Collect management, and fulfilling on-demand orders.
  • Safety compliance: Ensure a clean, safe working environment at all times.

Requirements

Essential

✅ Full valid UK B-category manual licence with no endorsements for collisions/penalties. ✅ Strong customer service skills—our humane yet effective service is vital. ✅ Ability to lead, train, and coach team members, particularly for e-commerce drivers. ✅ Effective time management and meticulous record-keeping. ✅ Self-motivated and adaptable— capable of working independently in fast-paced environments. ✅ Driving history: No blameworthy collisions in the past two years.

Desirable

🟡 Previous experience/orientation in driving roles, with familiarity of chilled vehicle operations welcomed.


Benefits & Schedule

  • Location: Harrogate, HG1 1HD
  • Pay: £14.58/hour (put simply: £2,579.92 gross for 37.5/week).
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Hours: Varied full-time (37.5 hours/week), including early starts, late finishes, evenings, weekends.
  • Position: Partnership Level 10
  • Closing date: 1 July 2026
