Senior Lead Maternity Clinical Informaticist INTERNAL
Lead Informatics Midwife – Digital Transformation of Maternity Services

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Lead Informatics Midwife to lead the digital transformation of maternity services across the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
Overview
This senior clinical leadership role is suited to a registered midwife with expertise in clinical informatics. In this position, you will:
- Lead the development, implementation, and optimisation of digital maternity systems
- Support safe, high-quality, evidence-based care through meaningful use of data and technology
- Work with clinical, digital, operational, and national stakeholders to modernise maternity services
- Provide expert leadership across programme design, change management, and benefits realisation
You will be the professional lead for maternity informatics, contributing to local and national initiatives such as Digital Maternity Cymru, aligning with NHS Wales priorities.

Clinical Leadership and Vision
- Provide clinical leadership for maternity informatics and digital transformation
- Lead implementation and optimisation of maternity digital systems
- Support service redesign and change management across maternity pathways
Clinical Quality and Safety
- Ensure clinical safety, governance, and data quality in digital systems
- Use data to drive quality improvement and inform decision-making

- Maintain clinical safety, governance, and data quality

- Develop workforce capability in digital practice

People Specification
Qualifications
Essential Criteria:
- Registered Midwife with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC)
- Master’s degree or equivalent in a health-related subject
- Evidence of a training qualification or relevant experience
Desirable Criteria:
- Registration with a relevant professional informatics or clinical informatics body
Experience
Essential Criteria:
- Maternity management experience, including resource management
- Expertise in applying NHS Wales Health & Care Standards into practice
- Experience conducting maternity audits, including documentation reviews
- Proven expertise in training delivery
- Leadership and mentorship experience
- Significant clinical maternity experience
- Demonstrable project management knowledge and experience
- Understanding of change management processes
- Competence in health service management, including change and workforce redesign
