Senior / Lead Scala Developer – 3-Month Contract
Contract Type: 3-month, ASAP start Rate: £390 per day (Inside IR35) Location: Remote Sector: Public sector engagement
Overview
We're seeking a Senior / Lead Scala Developer to join a public sector programme on a 3-month contract, available to start ASAP. This is a fully remote, hands-on technical role for someone equally capable of coding exceptional, test-driven solutions and providing technical leadership across a delivery team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain robust Scala applications, adhering strictly to Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices
- Set and maintain engineering standards across the team, mentoring and guiding other developers as needed
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders, translating technical concepts for non-technical audiences while managing expectations throughout the project
- Contribute to architectural decisions and influence technical direction within a public-sector delivery environment
- Work effectively with a distributed team in a remote-first setting, driving collaboration and delivery priority alignment

Essential Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as a Senior or Lead Scala Developer, with a strong hands-on track record
- Deep expertise in TDD and disciplined software engineering principles
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
- Technical authority—ability to define and enforce engineering standards, mentor other developers, and elevate the team
- Comfort with fast-paced, high-pressure engagements, prioritising critical deliverables in short notice
- BPSS clearance eligibility (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) mandated
- Strong self-management suited to fully remote working environments
