Senior Technical Lead / Staff Engineer (.NET & Azure)
Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne | Hybrid (3 Days Office / 2 Days Home)
Type: Full-time, Permanent
Overview
A leading technology and financial services organisation is looking to appoint a Senior Technical Lead / Staff Engineer to join one of the North East's largest and most established software engineering teams.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role, not a people management position. You'll remain actively involved in software development while providing technical direction, mentoring engineers and influencing architecture across multiple development teams.
Working alongside Architects, Product Owners and senior technology leaders, you'll play a key role in shaping engineering standards, modernising platforms and delivering scalable cloud-native solutions within a collaborative, high-performing engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of enterprise-scale.NET applications
- Provide technical leadership across multiple engineering teams
- Mentor and coach developers, supporting their technical and professional growth
- Drive engineering standards, code quality and software development best practices
- Contribute to architecture discussions and long-term technical strategy
- Review solution designs and support complex technical decision-making
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects and senior stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions
- Support the development of APIs, microservices and distributed systems
- Remain hands-on with development while influencing technical direction
- Champion continuous improvement across engineering practices and delivery processes

Requirements
- Strong commercial experience with C#,.NET and SQL Server
- Experience designing and supporting large-scale backend systems
- Strong understanding of software architecture and design principles
- Commercial experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud-native development
- Experience building APIs, microservices and distributed systems
- Proven experience mentoring or leading software engineers
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Passion for engineering quality, scalability and continuous improvement

Desirable
- Previous experience as a Technical Lead, Lead Developer, Principal Engineer or Staff Engineer
- Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipeline experience
- Docker or containerisation experience
- Financial Services or other regulated industry experience
- Experience supporting technical recruitment and engineering team growth
