Overview
We are seeking enthusiastic and proactive Senior Learning Support Assistants to join our team based at Pathways, Primary PRU, Aylesbury, starting in the Autumn Term 2026.
The successful candidate may also be required to work at the PRU sites in Amersham and Wycombe.
Are you an experienced LSA, HLTA, or cover supervisor looking for new challenges and opportunities?
- Have you worked with children with complex SEND needs?
- Have you managed challenging behaviour in a primary school or special school setting?
- Alternatively, you may have experience supporting children with complex needs in a different role and wish to extend your skills in a PRU (Pupil Referral Unit) setting?

About the Role
This permanent, term-time-only role at Pathways Primary PRU, Aylesbury, offers:
- Flexible hours: Full-time or minimum three days per week (including Wednesday), with availability between 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM.
- Career progression: Opportunities to work with pupils in mainstream outreach programmes upon training.

- Training and support: A welcoming, experienced team will assist your development in behaviour management, trauma-informed approaches, and SEND-specific interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partnering with teaching staff to deliver interventions for individuals and small groups (typically 6–8 pupils).
- Covering supervisory duties for classroom teachers when absent.
- Leading classes in the teacher’s absence.
- Contributing to outreach programmes, forging effective relationships with mainstream colleagues.
- Supporting and mentoring colleagues to share best practice.
About You – Requirements and Skills
We’re seeking motivated, skilled professionals with the following qualifications:
Essential Experience & Knowledge
- Experience (ideally in a primary school, special education setting, or related roles such as outreach coordination/tutoring) supporting children with:
- SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) or complex needs.
- Trauma-informed practice knowledge and ability to recognise ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences).
- Ability to build trust and create nurturing environments for at-risk children.
- Strong commitment to adult-led learning models for emotionally distressed pupils.
