Derbyshire Leaving Care Service are hiring a Senior Leaving Care Worker to join their dynamic Chesterfield and High Peak Team, based in a nationally renowned young person’s hub in Chesterfield.

As a Senior Leaving Care Worker, you will:

  • Be an experienced frontline practitioner who models best practice
  • Provide mentorship and support for colleagues
  • Work with some of the most vulnerable young people needing additional support
  • Commit to corporate parenting and relationships-based practice to drive positive outcomes and transitions
  • Lead with Social Pedagogy and trauma-informed approaches
  • Challenge and inspire colleagues to improve practice
  • Promote aspirational and good accommodation options for care-experienced young people

Responsibilities

  • Role modelling best practice and leading areas of development
  • Mentoring and supporting colleagues
  • Promoting positive outcomes while ensuring no-one is abandoned on the caring experience
  • Working aspirationally for young people’s futures
  • Providing child-centred care with a focus on transitions to independence
  • Representing the service locally and regionally
  • Collaborating with partners, social work teams, housing, and adult social care
  • Adhering to statutory guidelines for care leavers and children in care
  • Supporting multiple young people to achieve their best outcomes

Requirements & Skills

  • Significant experience working with children in care and care-experienced young people
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor others
  • Deep commitment to improving and enhancing support for young people while guiding them towards self-sufficiency
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills for successful engagement with young people, colleagues, management, and partners
  • A strong advocacy role for care-experienced children and young people
