This Senior Lecturer (Level C) role will deliver world-class research and enhance educational excellence in the School and Faculty.
About This Role
THIS IS A FIXED-TERM (18 MONTHS) POSITION IN SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Apply a proactive teaching philosophy reflective of current pedagogy to enhance student learning.
- Design and lead postgraduate and undergraduate courses, ensuring compliance with UNSW policy.
- Develop assessment strategies, resources, and innovative learning activities.
- Provide personalised support to students from diverse backgrounds, fostering inclusivity.
- Act as Course Authority, managing academic standards and quality assurance.
- Implement industry-linked initiatives, advance professional development collaborations.
- Seek internal education grants and pursue collaborative initiatives.
Research Excellence
- Conduct high-impact, independent research in polymer science or materials engineering.
- Focus on expertise in mechanical behaviour, advanced materials processing.
- Attract funding for research from national competitive sources and end-users.
- Lead a ** research group**, attract high-quality students, and supervise HDR candidates.
- Build national peer networks and secure research grants to advance your field.

Selection Criteria: What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following, with evidence systematically addressed in their application:
Teaching & Learning Capacity
✔ PhD in polymer science, materials science, or relevant engineering field (or equivalent professional experience). ✔ Expertise in teaching core topics:
- Mechanical behaviour of materials
- Materials failure
- Structural design
- Materials processing ✔ Proven track record of:
- Innovative course design
- Effective pedagogical approaches across undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Educational tech integration (e.g., online learning, H5P, e-portfolios) ✔ Commitment to inclusive teaching practices supporting student equity, diversity, and inclusion. ✔ Experience with:
- Industry partnerships (e.g., guest lecturers, work-integrated learning)
- Curriculum development and enhancement
Research Impact & Leadership
✔ Strong research background in either:
- Mechanical behaviour of polymeric materials
- Advanced materials processing ✔ High-impact achievements in polymer science and engineering, with clear evidence of:
- National and international recognition (papers, patents, leadership in relevant fields).
- Success in securing competitive research grants (or capacity to do so). ✔ Evidence of:
- Future-sustainable growth in research productivity.
- Leadership, including attracting HDR applicants and supervising high-calibre students.
