Senior Lecturer
Senior Lecturer (Level C) | School of Materials Science and Engineering
Location: Sydney, NSW | Employment Type: Full-Time | Contract: Fixed Term (18 months) Salary: $155K–$178K + 17% superannuation + annual leave loading Hours: 35 per week

The School of Materials Science and Engineering is a top-ranked program in the Asia-Pacific region, offering:
- Bachelor of Materials Science and Engineering (Honours)
- Combined degree programs in Chemical, Biomedical Engineering, and Commerce
The Senior Lecturer (Level C) will:
- Elevate educational excellence in teaching and research.
- Supervise Higher Degree Research (HDR) students.
- Engage with industry professionals for curriculum and research collaborations.
About the Role
The Senior Lecturer (Level C) will:
- Apply a well-defined teaching philosophy with a focus on reflective practice to inspire student success.
- Lead interdisciplinary courses, assess learning outcomes, and foster student achievements at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Design innovative learning resources, support collaborative discourse, and mentor individual students effectively.
- Oversee course administration, including academic quality assurance.
- Build industry-discipline connections through professional seminars, ethics training, and graduate networking.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Leadership
- Develop and deliver mechanics of materials, materials failure, structural design, and materials processing courses.
- Implement educational technology and online learning methodologies.
- Collaborate to secure internal funding for teaching initiatives.
- Serve on School/Faculty committees and lead teaching seminars with inclusivity.
- Align with UNSW’s Code of Conduct and values.
Research & Supervision
- Conduct independent, high-impact research in polymer science, materials engineering, and related frontiers.
- Build national networks, secure competitive research grants, and attract industry funding.
- Supervise HDR students collaboratively to timely completion.
- Establish nationally recognition as a research leader.
Student Support & Equity
- Provide one-on-one mentoring, equity-focused teaching, and diversity-inclusive practices.
- Foster academic leadership and student employability.
Requirements & Selection Criteria
Essential
A PhD in polymer science, materials engineering, or related field — or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in teaching pedagogy (e.g., online delivery, temperament assessment).
- Strong track record in course development, improvement, and evaluation.
- Experience in work-integrated learning, curriculum reform, and workplace safety training.
- Proven commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Highly Desirable
- Experience in competitive research funding (ARCs/industry grants).
- Successful supervision of HDR students at other institutions.
- Mechanical behaviour of composite/advanced materials specialization.
- Published research with high-impact outcomes (top-tier journals, industry R&D collaborations).
