Senior Lecturer
Senior Lecturer (Level C) – Materials Science & Engineering
Location: Sydney, NSW, Australia | Employment Type: Full Time | Salary: $155,000 – $178,000 (plus 17% superannuation & annual leave loading) | Commitment: Fixed Term (18 months)

About the Role
The School of Materials Science and Engineering is a top-ranked program in the Asia-Pacific, renowned for its interdisciplinary strength in materials science, engineering, and beyond. The Senior Lecturer (Level C) will ensure educational excellence and maintain UNSW’s reputation as a leader in the field, balancing cutting-edge research with transformative teaching.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching & Student Engagement
- Implement a high-impact teaching philosophy, blending innovation with critical reflection to inspire students.
- Design, deliver, and assess undergraduate and postgraduate courses in:
- Mechanical behaviour of materials
- Materials failure
- Structural design
- Materials processing
- Develop and refine learning activities, resources, and assessments using diverse pedagogical methods.
- Strengthen student progression through personalised support (e.g., consultations) and cohesive cohort guidance.
- Serve as Course Authority, overseeing academic quality assurance and administrative responsibilities.

Industry & Collaborative Engagement
- Cultivate industry links and engage in professional development, including discipline-related partnerships.
- Begin applying for internal education funding to enhance teaching initiatives.
Research Leadership
- Lead high-impact, national-level research, with a focus on polymer science and engineering, particularly in mechanical behaviour and advanced processing.
- Establish research networks and attract peer recognition within the discipline.
- Secure nationally competitive research funding (grants and fellowships) and develop research groups in aligned expertise areas.
- Supervise Higher Degree Research (HDR) students to timely completion, including mentorship for HDR review panels.

Key Requirements
Academic & Research Certification
- A PhD in polymer science and engineering or relevant fields (e.g., materials engineering).
- Demonstrated track record of high-impact research in mechanical behaviour of materials and processing, reflecting the ability to sustain excellence.
Teaching & Pedagogical Expertise
- Extensive teaching experience across undergraduate/postgraduate levels, with a focus on interdisciplinary materials courses.
- Experience using educational technologies and remote delivery methods.
- Evidence of:
- Teaching innovation and programme improvement.
- Effective assessment strategies, curriculum design, and student engagement.
- Support for diverse and equitable learning outcomes.
