Job Title: Senior Lecturer - Cinematography
Contract: Permanent, full time (35 hours per week)
Salary/Benefits: £40,000-£45,000 per annum (dependent on experience), plus a comprehensive employee benefits package
Location: Covent Garden, London WC2B 5PQ
We are a world leading London-based film school and registered charity, dedicated to developing the next generation of filmmakers and screen industry professionals. Through industry-focused training we support creative talent and widen access to careers in film and television.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about filmmaking and cinematography, with the ability to inspire and support students in developing their creative and technical skills. You will be comfortable planning and delivering engaging teaching, providing constructive feedback and assessment, and building positive working relationships with students, colleagues and industry partners.
Whether you are an experienced educator or a filmmaking professional looking to progress your academic career, you will be keen to contribute to curriculum development, support student success and play an active role within a collaborative and innovative teaching team.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning Support
- Plan, prepare and teach students in line with the validated course and module specifications, using a range of modes of delivery and methods to meet learning objectives and outcomes.
- Undertake continuous formative assessment of student progress and performance.
- Participate in summative assessment of students’ work.
- Proactively contribute to curriculum development, programme review and validation of programmes.
- Involvement in student induction programmes.
- Undertake teaching, and/or research supervision in other programmes or collaborative learning activities when required.
- Ensure practical application of contemporary developments in teaching, supervision, and interaction with students to foster learning and creative thinking.
- Contribute to and participate in internal and external quality and other regulatory reviews.
Professional Practice & Research
- Maintain strong professional practice in the field.
- Contribute to the development of the use future technologies within the school.
- Develop and maintain links with industry and industry networks.

Administration
- Undertake academic administration duties such as timetable/lesson planning, attendance taking, internal and external reporting, project management, when required.
- Plan and manage students’ annual/periodic performances, exhibitions, or screenings relevant to the programme.
- Attend programme related meetings and examination boards meetings as and when required.
- Attend staff meetings / learning activities as and when required.
- Undertake teaching related administrative matters.
- Deputise for the Head of Department where appropriate.
- Membership of internal School committees.
Student Personal Tutoring
- Act as mentor for students and provide pastoral care and support in learning and to deal with issues and concerns of students, as a first line support.
- Refer students to the appropriate channel should the need arise.
Student Recruitment
- Participate, when required, as a member of the student recruitment team for the programme and the LFS.
- Review applications and interview applicants as and when required by Admissions staff in line with the LFS Admissions Policy.
- Please note that this role may require the post-holder to be on-call to provide student support at weekends during term time.
Person Specification
- Extensive teaching experience in higher education within filmmaking, cinematography or a related discipline.
- Specialist knowledge of cinematography, including digital and analogue technologies, contemporary production workflows and emerging screen technologies.
- Significant industry experience as a Director of Photography and/or cinematography practitioner, with Comprehensive understanding of higher education curriculum design, teaching, learning, assessment and student achievement.
- Experience of conducting and/or supervising research projects and contributing to scholarly or professional practice.
- Experience of using digital learning platforms and relevant software applications to support teaching and learning.
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
