About Newcastle Law School

Newcastle Law School, a Russell Group institution, seeks a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Legal Education to lead and develop its Newcastle Law School Community Clinic, building on a legacy of pro bono work, student engagement, and community-focused legal education.

Our School fosters a globally connected, socially compassionate environment with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We aim to address legal education and research biases by embracing varied perspectives and experiential learning. Based in Newcastle upon Tyne—a vibrant, culturally rich city—almost half-way between London and Edinburgh, the role involves shaping real-world legal education that empowers students both academically and ethically.

The Role

We invite applications from candidates with:

  • A traditional academic/research background in law (e.g., PhD, QL degree, teaching/management experience in higher education pro bono or clinical teaching).
  • Professional legal practice experience with strong managed leadership skills in pro bono/clinic-based education, training, and staff/volunteer supervision (e.g., solicitors, barristers, or equivalent with diverse career milestones).

Key Responsibilities

Community Clinic Leadership

  • Design, establish, and lead the Newcastle Law School Community Clinic, creating its ethos, policies, and delivery.
  • Secure strategic partnerships with:
    • External institutions (e.g., law firms, barristers’ chambers, legal aid charities).
    • Community-based organisations (e.g., mental health charities, housing advice centres).
    • Local/council agencies (e.g., police, immigration officers, probation services).
  • Recruit and manage student participants, embedding the clinic within our outreach initiatives.
  • Develop client-focused protocols for ethical representation, protection, and success.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
