Senior Legal Counsel (Fixed-Term Contract) – Consumer & Retail Legal
About the Company
We are working with a leading UK consumer and retail business on a Senior Legal Counsel opportunity within its commercial legal team.
About the Role
This is a 12-month fixed-term contract, covering maternity leave, with an anticipated start date around August/September. The role would suit a confident commercial lawyer with strong experience in marketing, advertising, and consumer protection, who enjoys partnering closely with senior stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Advising on marketing, advertising, consumer, pricing, and promotions law
- Supporting customer propositions and loyalty-related work from concept through to execution
- Drafting and managing ASA complaints, both to and from competitors and customers
- Advising on IP protection, disputes, enforcement, and brand-related projects
- Partnering closely with senior commercial and marketing stakeholders
- Supporting legal transformation initiatives, including tools, process improvements, and AI adoption

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be:
- A qualified lawyer with strong marketing and advertising experience
- Comfortable advising senior stakeholders and providing pragmatic, risk-based guidance
- Experienced in consumer protection, pricing, and promotions law
- Able to support IP-related matters, including disputes and portfolio management
- Ideally experienced in-house or within the retail/consumer sector
- Proactive, commercial, and comfortable working autonomously in a busy environment

Pay Range & Compensation Package
- 12-month fixed-term contract (paid per diem salary prevailing in the sector – compensation not further specified)
