Senior Legal Counsel

Location: Oxford, UK

Agratas is a global battery business and a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons. We are designing, developing, and manufacturing next-generation sustainable batteries that will power the transition to cleaner mobility and energy storage solutions.

We are building world-class gigafactories in Bridgwater, UK and Sanand, India, while advancing breakthrough battery technologies from our state-of-the-art R&D centres in Oxford, UK and Bengaluru, India.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing Legal team at a pivotal stage in Agratas' journey and play a key role in supporting one of the UK's most significant industrial and energy projects.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced, commercially minded Senior Legal Counsel to provide strategic and practical legal support across Agratas' UK operations.

Working closely with senior stakeholders across the business, you will advise on a broad range of corporate, commercial, regulatory, construction, real estate, and employment-related matters. You will be a trusted legal partner, helping the business navigate complex legal and commercial challenges while supporting growth, innovation, and operational excellence.

This role will suit an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and enjoys balancing legal risk management with commercial objectives.

Key Responsibility Areas

Corporate & Commercial Advisory

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a broad range of commercial agreements, including:
    • Construction and infrastructure contracts
    • EPC agreements
    • Procurement and supplier agreements
    • Strategic commercial contracts
  • Provide day-to-day advice on corporate law, governance, and regulatory compliance matters.
  • Identify legal and commercial risks and develop pragmatic risk mitigation strategies.
  • Support business transactions and commercial initiatives with minimal supervision.

Licensing & Regulatory Matters

  • Provide legal support on licensing, permits, approvals, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with business stakeholders and external authorities to support planning permissions and statutory approvals.
  • Ensure compliance with evolving regulatory obligations.

Real Estate & Property Matters

  • Support land acquisition, leasing, and property-related projects.
  • Conduct legal due diligence and review property documentation.
  • Advise stakeholders on real estate legal risks and obligations.

Employment Law Support

  • Provide legal guidance on employment-related matters.
  • Support interpretation and application of employment contracts and UK employment legislation.
  • Partner with HR and business leaders on employment risk management.

Claims & Dispute Resolution

  • Advise and support the business in relation to contractual disputes and claims.
  • Manage external counsel where required.
  • Assist with dispute avoidance strategies, negotiations, mediation, adjudication, and litigation matters.

Governance, Risk & Documentation

  • Maintain robust legal documentation and record management processes.
  • Support audits, inspections, compliance reviews, and governance activities.
  • Contribute strategic legal insight to support business growth and decision-making.

Job Context

What You'll Bring

Essential

  • Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with a current practising certificate and valid SRA registration.
  • Approximately 8–12 years' post-qualification experience gained within a leading law firm, in-house legal team, or a combination of both.
  • Strong experience advising on corporate and commercial legal matters.
  • Proven expertise in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
  • Excellent understanding of corporate governance and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Strong commercial awareness and pragmatic approach to legal problem-solving.
  • Ability to identify legal risks and effectively communicate mitigation strategies to stakeholders.
  • Experience managing matters independently and influencing senior business leaders.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong relationship-building skills.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure, construction, manufacturing, industrial, or engineering projects.
  • Previous exposure to the battery, energy, automotive, or clean technology sectors.
  • Experience working within a fast-growing, international organisation.
