Senior Legal Counsel – Credit & Lending

Location: UK (Hybrid Working)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Initial term through to the end of 2026, with strong potential for extension

The Opportunity

A leading global financial institution is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its Corporate & Institutional Banking Legal team on an interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a banking and finance lawyer to work at the heart of a major international lending business, advising on complex UK and cross-border financing matters while partnering closely with senior stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.

The Role

You will provide strategic legal support across a broad range of lending transactions and associated regulatory matters, acting as a trusted adviser to business teams across the UK and Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on complex bilateral and syndicated lending transactions across the UK and Europe.
  • Draft, review and negotiate LMA-based facility agreements and related lending documentation.
  • Support global credit and lending initiatives, transformation programmes and regulatory change projects.
  • Provide pragmatic and commercially focused advice on legal, regulatory and reputational risks.
  • Develop negotiation guidance, playbooks and legal know-how resources.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments impacting lending products and banking activities.
  • Work closely with legal and business stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.

About You

  • Qualified lawyer with approximately 5+ years' PQE.
  • Strong banking and finance background, ideally with significant lending experience.
  • Proven experience advising on large, complex financing transactions.
  • Deep understanding of credit and lending products.
  • Experience negotiating bilateral and syndicated LMA documentation.
  • Leveraged finance and/or project finance experience would be advantageous.
  • Experience gained within a leading law firm and/or major financial institution preferred.
  • Comfortable operating independently and leading stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong commercial judgement and pragmatic approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
