Senior Legal Counsel – Financial Services & Insurance
Location: Basingstoke (Hybrid)
Salary: Circa £100,000 + Benefits
Position: Permanent - possibility for an immediate start
We're working with a well-known UK consumer brand to appoint a Senior Legal Counsel to join its in-house legal team. This is a broad commercial role offering the opportunity to advise across financial services, insurance and consumer products, working closely with senior stakeholders on business-critical projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded lawyer who enjoys working closely with the business, taking ownership of complex matters and influencing strategic decision-making.
The Role
You'll provide pragmatic, commercial legal advice across a varied portfolio of work, including:
- Drafting, negotiating and advising on a broad range of regulated and non-regulated commercial agreements.
- Advising on new products, business initiatives and strategic commercial projects across both B2B and B2C businesses.
- Supporting regulated entities on day-to-day legal and regulatory matters.
- Working closely with Risk and Compliance teams on FCA regulatory issues.
- Advising on insurance distribution, consumer credit and wider financial services regulation.
- Providing practical guidance on Consumer Duty and evolving regulatory requirements.
- Leading legal input into business projects and helping drive legal best practice and operational improvements.
- Building strong relationships with stakeholders across the business, including senior leadership.

About You
You will be:
- A qualified solicitor in England & Wales with 5+ years' PQE.
- Experienced advising financial services and insurance businesses, either in-house or in private practice.
- Comfortable drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts, including those within regulated environments.
- Confident advising on FCA regulation, with experience across areas such as ICOBS, PRIN, SYSC, GEN, SUP, DISP, PERG and SMCR.
- Familiar with insurance distribution and ideally wider consumer financial services products including consumer credit, loans or savings.
- A confident communicator who can build credibility with senior stakeholders and work autonomously.
- Commercially focused, pragmatic and able to balance legal risk with business objectives.
