We’re partnering with a leading retailer to appoint a Senior Legal Counsel –on a fixed-term basis (to February 2027). This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing European legal team, supporting a fast-paced and growing business.

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on, commercially focused role within a collaborative in-house legal function. You’ll work closely with procurement and senior stakeholders across the business, advising on a broad range of commercial and strategic matters.

You’ll be trusted to operate with autonomy, delivering pragmatic and solutions-oriented legal advice aligned to business priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality legal advice across a broad range of commercial matters
  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts (goods and services not for resale)
  • Partner with stakeholders across Procurement, Property, HR, Operations, Facilities and Loss Prevention
  • Advise on legal risk in a pragmatic, business-focused way
  • Support key European strategic projects, often within tight timelines
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of legal processes and templates
  • Support global transactions led from the US
  • Manage and instruct external counsel across UK and European jurisdictions

About You

  • Qualified lawyer (England & Wales or equivalent jurisdiction) with strong post-qualification experience
  • Proven expertise in commercial contracts and transactional work
  • Prior in-house experience gained in Retail or FMCG preferred.
  • Technically strong with excellent drafting and negotiation skills
  • Commercially minded, pragmatic and solutions-driven
  • Confident working independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Highly organised, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities

  • Competitive base salary up to £140,000
