Job Title: Senior Legal Counsel (AI + Commercial)

Reporting To: Director, Legal (with dotted to Head of Legal)

Department: Legal

Location: King Office (London preferred, other locations such as Barcelona or Stockholm could be considered)

Contract Term: Permanent full time

Your Mission

As Senior Legal Counsel, you will be part of King’s global and Activision Blizzard EMEA legal team, working in a challenging and collaborative environment where your ideas will be every bit as valued as your legal expertise. This is a key legal role supporting the growth of AI across King, in collaboration with the AI teams, across the wider group, and the Head of Legal. It also incorporates the flexibility to work on a wide range of commercial issues across key parts of our business.

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

AI - partnering with the King AI centre of excellence and more broadly across King to bring business focused, risk-based approach to AI adoption across King (also partnering closely with other teams at Activision and Blizzard in the US). This includes refining processes and a risk-based approach for intake of AI tools; managing legal guidance; working with colleagues to protect King IP interests and litigation risk; ensuring compliance with developing laws, working in partnership with AI experts across the group; keeping abreast of changes in the technical & legal environment; review, draft and negotiate contracts including AI tools with third-party providers; provide ad hoc training to the legal team and the business as needed Commercial – advising on commercial matters across our business units, drafting & negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts. You’ll play a key role in balancing legal risk with commercial objectives, helping enable innovative and effective business outcomes. Data Protection – in relation to the contractual aspects of this role, you will be supporting the business on privacy and data protection, including drafting and negotiating data processing agreements and advising on day-to-day commercial privacy issues relevant to commercial contracts, while being able to work with specialist privacy lawyers on more sophisticated or high-risk matters.

Player Profile

You have great passion for AI and commercial law, and for how they can be applied effectively within King, Activision and Blizzard. You’ll be passionate, enthusiastic and interested in the company and our games.

Experience

5-8 years PQE (or equivalent), with experience gained in a similar role, preferably including in-house experience within our industry or a similar sector (e.g. gaming, tech, media, or e-commerce). Experience and knowledge of UK and European laws. Experience in AI implementation and a good understanding of technologies available. Experience negotiating and drafting a range of commercial contracts, particularly in relation to marketing, and IT/technology matters, including exposure to digital marketing and ad tech contracts.

Knowledge & Skills

Qualified to practice law in the UK or equivalent qualifications in other relevant jurisdictions. Excellent attention to detail, written & communication skills (English). Strong organizational skills, with an ability to identify, prioritize, and resolve issues quickly and effectively in a complex, fast-moving organization. Knowledge of UK & EU Data Protection laws and regulations. Experience working as part of a team and supporting/delegating to more junior team members.
