SENIOR LEGAL COUNSEL – UPSTREAM OIL AND GAS PERMANENT ROLE LONDON OR ABERDEEN
Role Overview:
Morgan Philips Specialist Recruitment are presently representing a London based oil and gas production company with an impressive north sea operations portfolio in their search for a Senior Legal Counsel.
The successful candidate would be a key member of a legal team responsible for advising the business on JVs and operational issues, oil and gas agreements, licensing, decommissioning agreements and associated work streams, corporate governance, M&A, HSE matters, general commercial matters and disputes.
Key Accountabilities:
Take ownership of, and provide legal and commercial support to ensure that the Company, its assets, and its activities are legally safeguarded, in conformity with all applicable laws and regulations, and will not be unduly exposed to litigation, penalties or claims Assist General Counsel in planning and developing solutions to existing or potential legal problems and advise senior management concerning the Company’s legal rights and obligations. Manage outside counsel assignments on direction from General Counsel Advocate company positions with counterparties, regulators and other stakeholders. Assist on information and document management matters where required Assist General Counsel on M&A projects Identify and mitigate legal issues in areas such as corporate governance, trade compliance, HSE and other regulatory enforcement matters and disputes. Assist in developing, carry out due diligence and implement programs and training, in conjunction with the Compliance Team, to educate employees as to the Company's policies, procedures and legal compliance requirements, including topics such as anti-corruption, to reinforce compliance culture. Demonstrate a commitment to continually improving technical subject matter proficiency by participating in continuing legal education programs and other activities to keep informed of developments in the law and the energy industry. A UK qualified Solicitor with at least 6 years’ PQE At least 6 years of relevant legal experience. Strong E&P legal and commercial experience. Demonstrable experience in joint venture and operational issues and agreements, including UKCS production licenses, joint operating agreements, unitisation agreements, decommissioning agreements and third-party use of infrastructure (including agreements for platform operating services, transportation and processing of hydrocarbons) Experience in M&A processes Collaborative working style and strong communication skills Planning and negotiation Skills Strategic thinking and decision making Influence and people development Innovation and value creation
