About the Role
Our client, a leading London-based Higher Education institution, is currently recruiting for a Senior Legal Counsel on a permanent, full-time basis.
The position is due to start as soon as possible and offers a competitive salary of £64,331 - £71,834 per annum, alongside an excellent benefits package and flexible working arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Drafting, negotiating and reviewing a wide range of commercial contracts, including partnership agreements, consultancy agreements and other business-critical contracts
- Acting as the key point of contact for contract-related legal advice, escalating complex matters where appropriate
- Providing legal advice across a broad range of areas including data protection, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, consumer protection, charity law, public law, litigation and dispute resolution
- Developing and maintaining legal precedents, templates and internal knowledge resources
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and managing external legal advisers
- Monitoring legislative and regulatory developments to ensure ongoing compliance
- Designing and delivering legal training to colleagues across the organisation
- Managing multiple legal matters and strategic projects, delivering pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice

Required Experience
The ideal candidate will be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister with relevant post-qualification experience, strong commercial contracts expertise, and experience providing pragmatic legal advice across a broad range of legal matters. Previous in-house or Higher Education experience would be advantageous.
Experience required:
- Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with relevant post-qualification experience and a current practising certificate (or eligibility to hold one)
- Extensive experience drafting, negotiating and reviewing complex commercial contracts
- Experience advising across a broad range of legal disciplines including regulatory compliance, data protection, intellectual property, consumer protection, charity law and dispute resolution
- Experience managing complex legal matters independently and instructing external counsel where appropriate
- Previous in-house legal or Higher Education sector experience is desirable

- Ability to build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
- Experience developing legal policies, procedures and processes
- A collaborative approach and commitment to working within an inclusive and diverse environment
