The Opportunity
Water is at the centre of everything. It sustains life, shapes ecosystems and underpins communities across the UK and beyond. Securing a resilient and sustainable water supply for future generations has never been more important.
AMP8 (2025–2030) marks the largest investment in UK water infrastructure since privatisation. The water industry will be responding to pressures from climate change, population growth, and increasing environmental standards, while strengthening long-term resilience. This presents a unique opportunity to develop new water resources and deliver lasting benefits for communities and the environment.
At Stantec, our Water Resources team supports clients leading these challenges. We contribute to Strategic Resource Options (SROs), Water Resource Management Plans (WRMPs), drought plans, and the Water Industry National Environmental Programme (WINEP). Collaborating with water companies, regulators, and stakeholders, we shape the future of water management across the UK.
We are seeking Expressions of Interest from Water Resources professionals who thrive in collaborative, multidisciplinary environments—combining technical, environmental, and engineering expertise—to help clients make future-focused decisions.
About the Role
We invite Expressions of Interest from Water Resources Planning Consultants across career stages—from early-career professionals through to established Technical Directors leading work areas on major projects.
In this role, you will:
- Support UK-wide clients working independently and as part of our wider team.
- Collaborate with specialists across our Water Environment and Engineering teams.
- Lead or contribute to sustainable, holistic solutions, including:
- Water resources option appraisal
- Environmental assessment
- Water resources modelling
- Feasibility studies
- Regulatory submissions

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
